oan Triay, manager at DOCOMO Euro-Labs, participated in November to two renowned international events: IEEE NFV-SDN 2021 and Layer123 World Congress 2021, showcasing how NTT DOCOMO and ETSI NFV activities are at the forefront of the digital transformation journey that the industry is undertaking with the introduction of 5G and beyond.
Joan Triay’s participation at the two events served as the perfect stage for introducing NTT DOCOMO’s 5G development and the related standardization activities from ETSI NFV.
At the 7th IEEE Conference on Network Function Virtualization and Software Defined Networks (IEEE NFV-SDN 2021), Joan delivered a keynote. With the title “NFV for 5G and beyond: current state and technology trends”, the presentation introduced the audience the current development state of 5G networks using NFV and SDN, and ventured in some technology trends and technologies that are likely to play a key role in the development of beyond 5G and 6G. In addition, he also participated as a panelist in the “Evolving NFV: the relentless march toward cloud native, expansion into the edge and autonomous networking” discussion panel, together with other distinguished experts in the fields of MEC, NFV and SDN. At the Layer123 World Congress 2021, entitled this year: “Beyond SDN & NFV: Exploring the commercial and technical opportunities”, Joan’s participation was also twofold: firstly, by delivering the presentation “5G: an NFV native network”, and secondly by participating, again, in a panel discussion, but this time related to the “role of standards in containerized VNF management”. The presentation showcased the status of NFV with regards to 5G deployments. He introduced the outcomes of the work that ETSI NFV has performed in determining further NFV support for 5G, as part of the ETSI GR NFV-IFA 037, for which Joan also performed the rapporteur role. Joan Triay is also the Technical Manager of the ETSI NFV and, with the rest of the team at DOCOMO Euro-Labs and the members at NTT DOCOMO in Japan, he is actively contributing to global standards in the domain of network virtualization and cloudification, such as ETSI NFV and O-RAN.
