The 5G-ACIA Plenary on January 19-21 approved the publication of a White Paper on “Integration of 5G with Time-Sensitive Networking for Industrial Communications”. The White Paper, available in the 5G-ACIA website, describes and examines integration of 5G with TSN for typical industrial use cases, namely controller-to-controller, controller-to-device and device-to compute communication. The document provides a comprehensive overview of the features supported by the 3GPP standard release 16 to support Time Sensitive Communication (TSC).
In the same 5G-ACIA Plenary meeting, Jari Mutikainen (Docomo Euro-labs) held a tutorial on the status of the standardization of Industrial IoT features in 3GPP Rel-17, which completion is scheduled in June 2021. The TSC enhancements under evaluation for 3GPP Rel-17 include improvements to time synchronization (e.g. support of PTP over UDP/IP in addition to gPTP over Ethernet), exposure of time synchronization services and exposure of 3GPP deterministic QoS API to vertical applications.
