ETSI NFV has released in March 2025 a new white paper, which has been edited and led by contributors at DOCOMO Euro-Labs.
ETSI has recently released a new Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) white paper. The white paper titled “NFV Evolution: Towards the Telco Cloud” ETSI WP65, published in March 2025, marks a major milestone in the journey of network operators toward digitally transforming telecom networks leveraging cloud-native principles. This white paper offers a comprehensive overview of the evolution of NFV into a broader and more flexible Telco Cloud approach, in order to meet the demands of modern 5G and future 6G networks. The Telco Cloud can enable more scalable, automated, and service-oriented network lifecycle and OAM management. It highlights the shift towards a cloud-native design pattern enriched by state-of-the-art cloud-native technologies and other enablers. The full white paper is available for download here (PDF). Additional information and quoting from the ETSI ISG NFV Chair, Yoshihiro Nakajima (NTT DOCOMO) can be obtained from the ETSI press release.
The white paper has been steered by experts at DOCOMO Euro-Labs, who played a key role both in authoring and editing its content. Dr. Joan Triay served as editor of the WP65, while Dr. Kostas Katsalis and Yuya Kuno provided key contributions and feedback to the white paper. Of course, considering the widespread interest in the industry, DOCOMO contributions were complemented and enriched by other instrumental contributions by delegates from the telecom vendor and network operator communities.
